Indonesia is a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world. However, with a total of 231 million of Muslims in this country, only 20,01% claim to understand sharia economics and finance (Bank Indonesia, 2021).

The low literacy rate, especially when it comes to understanding the consequences of high interest rates, led to many problems such as vulnerability of people to illegal loans, overconsumption, overspending, and many more.

Therefore, increasing literacy rates is important to increase understanding of sharia products and increase the accessibility of those products to people and its applications within their everyday lives.

In addition, Indonesia has a low innovation rate with a score of 26.49 compared to the global average of 30.94 (Global Innovation Index, 2020), indicating that there is also a low level of innovation and research in the sharia industry in the country.

ALAMI Institute was established to provide a solution for the concerns and challenges outlined above. Our purpose is to increase literacy and innovation in the field of sharia economics and finance.

ALAMI Institute has contributed to increase literacy for a total of 3000 people and collaborated with renowned institutions to write books and research papers by 1 January 2022. But we do not want to stop here.

We want to keep increasing the sharia financial literacy and supporting product innovations within sharia finance that could answer challenges faced by the general public.

We want to contribute to a more equitably prosperous Indonesia and support Indonesia to become a nation who understands and practices the good values of sharia finance such as transparency, fairness, and moral ethics in its everyday activities and financial transactions.
